The National Association of Black Social Workers Census and Voter Initiative (CVI) Committee is urging all regular and student chapters to work with local communities to participate in upcoming local, state and federal elections.  Though many jurisdictions have changed their voting procedures due to the COVID-19 emergency, elections locally and nationally are still scheduled.

NABSW chapters were encouraged earlier this year to sponsor a community forum/meeting to educate the community about voter registration, education about candidates and issues and changes in the voting process in their locale.

The CVI Committee is now requesting chapters assistance in motivating and mobilizing our communities to either request an absentee ballot or go to the polls on the scheduled date of the election. Many states have opted to use absentee ballots in light of the COVID-19 outbreak to ensure that voters and persons working at the polling sites stay safe.  Please inform your community of the important dates to request these ballots.  Otherwise, voters will need to go to a local polling site.  Finally, we are requesting chapters to coordinate with other organizations/partners, such as the Urban League, in providing transportation to the polling sites for your voting process.

The national presidential election is scheduled for Tuesday, November 3, 2020.  No matter what your party affiliation is, we need all registered voters to cast their ballots in this most important election. The future direction of the country is dependent on each of us to have a voice in which party will be making policy decisions in the country.  NABSW regular and student chapters can assist our communities by helping in registering as many potential voters as possible via outreach through community newsletters, list serves, and social media such Facebook and Instagram.  Let your community know that you are willing and able to help them to be a part of this important election.

Let’s use our resources to activate our communities to get out the vote and cast our ballots for the local, state and national candidates that will improve the quality of life for our communities.
