Sevaughn Banks, Ph.D. is a long standing member of the National Association of Black Social Workers. Dr. Banks is the Principal Investigator for a research project entitled, Perspectives Among African American Men and Women About Perceived and Actual Gender Roles and Their Influence on Communication and Intimacy. Dr. Banks is interested in your views about heterosexual African American men and women’s perception about gender roles and their influence on communication and intimacy. The purpose of this study is to investigate how gender roles are understood and operationalized among African Americans and their resultant effects on relationships.

Study participants must be: 1) African American 2) Heterosexual male or female and 3) at least 18 years of age or older. The survey has nineteen (19) multi-dimensional questions. It should take approximately 15 - 20 minutes to complete. It is completely anonymous. Your responses are strictly confidential. Any hard copies will be secured in a locked file cabinet for no less than three (3) years.

This topic is very important and the findings will be submitted to a scholarly research journal to inform readers about dimensions of heterosexual African-American relationships.

If you are interested in participating in this survey or have any questions contact Dr. Banks at 415.948.4934 or by email at
