Linda Thompkins

Cheikh Ahmadou Banba Mbacké, Liaison

The website committee was established in 1991, and restructured in 2004 with the charge to create a “new” web site for NABSW. The current web site is the result of the early committee efforts, and the technical assistance of our web-management company. The website potential as a viable vehicle for generating revenue remains dormant. We have yet to fully tap into the website as an effective, efficient, and cost-saving communication medium.

In 2006 the committee continued to target on-going goals, and accomplished the following goals it set in 2005. Included were:

  • Completion of the web-marketing plan draft,
  • Establishing @NABSW e-mail addresses for each Executive Committee member,
  • Placement of Conference Brochure on website,
  • Meeting with Office of Student Affairs Coordinator, members of OSA Executive Board, and OSA Student Advisor to discuss ways OSA might increase utilization of the website,
  • Establishing mechanism for potential revenue via sale of job board and classified ad space.
  • Completion of Website User Agreement/Privacy Policy governing external use by general public,
  • Completion of Website Protocols/Procedures governing internal use by general membership,
  • Set-up and launched on-line event registration,

Near the end of 2006, a Website Committee Chair was appointed. The Website Liaison will orient and work closely with the Chair who will eventually assume full responsibilities as Webmaster. The committee is faced with creating and advocating for expanded organizational growth opportunities via the NABSW website and increased utilization of information technology. The primary objective of an effective organization website is to keep members and visitors coming back. Nothing on our website is more important than content. Our website should be constructed to help us get intimate with our members. We will continually work to ensure that our site is organized in a manner that makes it easy for visitors to find what they are seeking.

Website Committee goals for 2007 include:

  • Promoting the revenue potential of fee-based hosting of chapter web pages, our Job board, and other types of electronic advertising via our website.
  • Revising Committee, Institute, and Work Group pages
  • Developing links to local chapter web sites,
  • Expanding potential for on-line event registration,
  • Expansion of website utility for members (listserv, member-only section, etc,) and visitors,
  • Further development of the local chapter updates and events section,
  • Continued solicitation of member and potential member feedback,
  • Continuing development of appropriate accounting systems, security safe guards, and management information systems (MIS) protocols,
  • Obtain Executive Committee approval of Website User Agreement/Privacy Policy and Website Protocols/Procedures,
  • Finalize, obtain approval, and distribute the web-marketing plan created plan in 2006, and
  • Development of a website operating budget.

In 2007, the committee will continue to use the website to demonstrate the value of NABSW membership to its members, potential members, and non-members. This committee will take every opportunity to encourage our membership to share what you want, like and need. The committee task then becomes figuring out how to provide it.
