Alabama Ujima ABSW has been the first of our chapters to get on the ground to assess and meet the needs of our people who have lost so much to the tornadoes that touched down in Alabama, Mississippi and North Carolina last week. The chapter has met constantly, focusing on collecting and distributing Care Packages, developing needs list, acquiring temporary facilities for intake at each site, coordinating long distance help, setting up a Crisis Hotline and facilitating an Adopt-A-Family/Individual initiative for displaced families.
As you follow the news reports you see that whole communities have been wiped out and hundreds of lives have been lost. Alabama Ujima ABSW has started their intake and adoption process in the Rosedale community, an area in Tuscaloosa that was already a depressed community before the disasters.
Alabama Ujima ABSW needs our help now!
We are asking all chapters to support one of the programs Alabama Ujima ABSW has initiated by sending $25 Wal-Mart Gift Cards for distribution to the people being identified daily as needing help. When sending more than $25.00 worth of gift cards, send multiple $25.00 gift cards. For example, if chapters or individuals are sending $100, four (4), $25.00 gift cards should be purchased. All gift cards should be sent to:

This is the time for us to pull together for our people in crises. Please follow Alabama Ujima ABSW on Facebook http://www.facebook.com/?ref=logo#!/event.php?eid=206158996082737 to stay current with their activities and to respond to the needs they identify.
Right now, the only help being asked for from chapters, members and friends outside of Alabama is $25.00 Wal-Mart Gift Cards. Nothing more. This is an immediate need. Additional needs will be communicated through Alabama Ujima ABSW’s facebook page.
Thank you, in advance, for your support!
